Sicko: A deep look into the health system in the United States

Hi everyone!!!

I´m going to talk about my impression of the film seen on Tuesday, Sicko, directed by Michael Moore. In my opinion this documentary shows very clearly how are the different health systems in different countries.

I was quite impressed on how the health system in the U.S.A. Doesn´t falls on my head, how people having health insurance doesn´t cover them so many diseases that can suffer and that if not treated on time can lead to death. I don´t understand how people having retirement age, have to keep working the rest of his life to buy the medicine, or their country people have to travel to another, to receive better quality care.

I was impressed when he mentioned the movie that doctors with more denials of interventions are most rewarded by insurance, then I wonder: these doctors have real vocation or only care about the money you earn?
I was also impressed when he alluded to insurers reject people because they are very obese or very thin, without being at all extreme cases. I also called attention to how when a person who needs an expensive transaction, the companies rummage automatically and by systems in their health history and take advantage of anything to say that you are withholding information and deny the service.

I can´t understand how could they be so insensitive to the point of deceiving people by telling them that they had no tumor, being that it was true and that lack of attention the sick many die.

I was quite surprised to see how was the health system in England, I don´t know much about these issues, but I didn´t know I could have, somewhere, a health system as having a country where health care is free all and the doctors get bonuses if they manage to change a bad habit of patients or if they can, for example, that their patients lower cholesterol levels. Here health indices are much higher than in the U.S.A., people have a better quality of life and they don´t live with afraid of getting sick from not having money or a health system that covers their diseases.

This documentary seemed great; I think that as future health professionals must be willing to give our best to people who need it most.

My favorite book

One of my favorite books is "Perfume". It tells the story of a man, who had an excessive development of smell and a lack of body odor what led him to become a murderer with only one goal: to create the most exquisite human perfume. This obsession led him to commit the most heinous crimes known to date in order to extract the most exquisite fragrance of the bodies of his victims leading to an ending so unexpected and surprising. I leave the doubt for you to read the book and know how the end of this interesting character is.

I love this book, because it is not like the others that talk about similar issues. From my point of view, this book breaks schemes and invites you to enter into a world unexplored by others: the world of smells.

I remember I had to read this book when I was studying in high school, and then I had to take a test. At first, I thought I would find it boring as the other books that I had to read at school, but while I was reading, I had the urge to know what happens to this mysterious character and wanted to know how and why he finally became a murderer and reach the end of this novel.

After reading the book I saw the movie. It is a good film, but for me it does not cover all the details recounted in the book, details that make the book more interesting and attract your attention even more.

I recommend “Perfume” by Patrick Suskind, because as soon as you start reading it you won’t wait to finish it, in order to know the end this exciting story.

English classes: a good experience

English classes I like a lot, I think little by little I increased my vocabulary in this language and the idea of do “listening” is very good because it allows to sharpen our ears and be able to understand when others speak to us in English. In my school, the English class I remember we did not make many of these activities and most of the test consisted of written questions to answer, sometimes we were reading texts of some books and contests spelling words dictated by the teacher, but we did not speak much English.

I think that in the English classes these years we have reinforced enough to hear this language. Also, I like this course, because we read articles related to your career and this, in addition to inform us about many interesting topics, to learn medical vocabulary, learn to read articles on this language, which for me is difficult to understand. Another thing we do in class and I consider important for our training in this area, is that we do in English class with a teacher who proves to be an expert on the subject, I find this essential because, on one hand we have to understand or interpret the meanings and learn new words and also learn to say them.

With this course I feel that, even though it costs me to speak and understand this language, I learned about this and I have increased my vocabulary a bit, for which I´m very happy, because to be honest, at first believed that this course would not help me a lot, because I don´t know much of this language.

I am very grateful to have this subject, and also very grateful to the teacher, who has had a lot of patience to teach.

My Working Life

Hi everybody!!!

In the blogs this week, I´m going to talk about some of the jobs that I worked in my life.
The first job of my life was birthday entertainer, at age 16, I worked on this because one day being in the square I saw an ad that said they needed a birthday clown to encourage young children, then a friend went to see that it was. We loved it and began to work on that. This work consisted of going to different children’s birthday clown dressed, doll or princess and makes games, sing songs and paint the faces. This work was very fun, we amused ourselves doing it. I worked on this about a year and a half.
My second job was at age 18 as a telephone interviewer in a call center, this work consisted surveys every week, at a group of specific persons, associated with various public services. This work was very methodical, and that was to make the questions to people and noting their responses, it wasn´t so stressful, but sometimes I got tired of talking so much jajaja.
Finally in the summers of 2009 and 2010 worked as a salesman in the Paris shop in La Serena, worked from Monday to Friday during the afternoon. This work despite being too hard, it was really fun, I became very good friends with whom I talked and laughed during the whole shift and sometimes after work we were going to have fun in the urban centers.

These are the jobs I worked during my life, really all have been a great experience that made me grow as a person and helped me to become independent.

My pastime and my vacation

Hi everybody!!!
The topic of this blogs is: My pastime and my vacation. Usually in my pastime I read magazines and my favorite books, listen to music, sleep and watch my favorite shows on TV.
Further, I like to share with my family and enjoy nature with they.
I like going shopping or going at the cinema at see one film about adventure or action.
The most fun is when I go on vacation with my family, especially with my cousins at La Serena. We entertain a lot doing various activities such as playing cards, dancing, going out at night, visited many places, such as beaches, museum, handcraft fair, and many places very very wonderful.
The that most I like is the Elqui Valley, which is a beautiful place, full of trees, parks, lakes. The last time I went to La Serena, I went to the Elqui Valley with some friends and I remember that we went to a camping that had a lake, where we bathed for long periods and the water was exquisite, in these places you can enjoy with your friends and family outdoors, you can play ball, to roast and relax.

Another place that I like from the same region, where I go on vacation is the beach Totoralillo, this beach has large waves, you can see people surfing, you can play to pallets, visit a handcraft fair that is put in place , walking along the beach, watch the sunset and so many fun activities. In summer, this beach is full of people, many Argentine go to this beach, but it's nice to go to this place to spend a great day.

The fourth region has nice places to visit and relax, I recommend you go,you will not regret.

Education and prevention

The midwife has an important task in counseling and education for health, not only for women but also within their families and community. The prevention is very important in my field because it´s we can take appropriate protective measures, the promotion of normal birth, the detection of complications in the mother and child, access to health care or other appropriate assistance and implementation of emergency measures Five different ways that may help educated individuals, families and community are:
1. Educate individuals about their sex life, for example education on condom use to avoid unwanted pregnancies that can lead to abortions.
2. Educate at the women about of the pregnancy process, cares and important indication for this period. And educate at the pregnant women about possible complications of pregnancy.
3. Advice couples during pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium. Indicate the importance of assistance of man at the controls.

4. Educate the community about sexual and reproductive health and educate the community you want to have children on how to prepare for paternity and childcare.

5. Teach at the parents for that they educate at your children about this topics.
Also to prevent midwives can realize various activities to promote prevention such as delivery of educational tryptic in policlinic, realitation of educational talks to pregnant women or talks of sexual reproduction interested young, among others.
Also, it is important that educating people, we explain with simple words, to understand clearly what we teach. It is also important to ask if they are questions about what is taught, to make sure they really learned.

Gender roles in health care

I had never thought of this subject, but I've always had the idea that both women and men have the same rights. And the race to consider depends on your calling, for example if a man studies Obstetrics and Genecology is because he likes the area and wants to develop it.
As for the benefits I think both men and women, studying the same career bring the same benefits. What is generally said, in a particular way in our profession that would be a problem for men than women prefer to be Midwives, instead of Midwives, noting that this occurs only in some cases.
Historically, the problem of gender in different areas was more pronounced today due society has changed its thinking. From my point of view, gender is not a big problem in our career, and I think that all depends on the way people think. That is why I consider that gender issues among health workers in other countries will be heavily influenced by the thinking of persons belonging to that country.
